As Christians, we believe that Jesus Christ will return to the earth at the end of time. This belief is based on the teachings of the Bible, which describe the signs and wonders that will precede Christ’s second coming. The first sign of Christ’s second coming is the spread of the gospel throughout the world. In Matthew 24:14, Jesus says, “And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.” This means that before Christ returns, the gospel message must be shared with all people in all corners of the world. Today, we see the gospel being preached in every continent, and millions of people are coming to faith in Christ.
The second sign is the rise of false prophets and teachers. In Matthew 24:11, Jesus warns, “Many false prophets will arise and deceive many.” We see this happening today, as many people claim to have special knowledge or spiritual gifts, but lead others astray from the truth of the gospel. As believers, we must be vigilant and discerning, testing everything against the truth of God’s Word.
The third sign is wars and rumors of wars. In Matthew 24:6, Jesus says, “You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.” We see this happening today, as conflicts and tensions continue to escalate in many parts of the world. As believers, we must pray for peace, but also be prepared for the possibility of persecution and suffering.
The fourth sign is natural disasters and plagues. In Luke 21:11, Jesus says, “There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven.” We see this happening today, as earthquakes, hurricanes, and other natural disasters continue to wreak havoc around the world. In addition, we are currently experiencing a global pandemic that has affected millions of people. These events remind us of the fragility of life and the need to be ready for Christ’s return.
The fifth sign is the increase of wickedness and lawlessness. In Matthew 24:12, Jesus says, “Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold.” We see this happening today, as many people reject God’s moral standards and pursue their own selfish desires. As believers, we must stand firm in our faith and be a light in the darkness, showing the world the love and truth of Christ.
The sixth sign is the restoration of Israel. In Matthew 24:32-33, Jesus says, “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door.” The fig tree is often used in the Bible as a symbol of Israel, and Jesus’ words suggest that the restoration of Israel as a nation is a sign of his imminent return. Today, we see Israel thriving as a nation, fulfilling this prophecy.
The seventh sign is the coming of the Antichrist. In 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4, Paul writes, “Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction. He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God
