As the world awaits the US’s 2020 election in November, Christian College Faculty seems not to line up with Donald Trump. The race to the “White House” is now between current president Donald Trump on Republican and Joe Biden on Democrats.
Fans of these political parties have shared their views on who is winning this upcoming election. Religious and Non-religious groups have both showed their supports.
On Sunday evening, Mr. Trump spoke to the people of faith (Christians) ensuring them that God will help America to survive this pandemic Coronavirus.
” We know that God hears our prayer, We have no doubt about it. He’s always with us and he’ll help us overcome this challenge.” Trump said during a broadcast on his campaign’s Facebook page.
Donald Trump then continued his speech, this time it was focused on his re-election. He said that this upcoming election is important to the lives of Americans, every electorate must go out and vote saying whether this election is white evangelical or not, be it people of religion or not.
He then touched on the issue of Supreme Court nominee, Amy Coney Barrett. Opponents of abortion are excited that she will lead the court toward striking down Roe v. Wade.
A lot of professors in the various Christian Colleges expressed their concern on how they will struggle to vote for Donald Trump again in an interview this week. One of Wheaton College’s associate professor of politics and law at Wheaton and director of the college’s Center for Faith, Politics, and Economics, David Iglesias, clearly stating that as a Christian, he strongly believes in the Scripture as he made reference to King David’s adultery with Queen Bathsheba. In reference to that, he made mention that as a leader your attitude counts a lot, if you do wrong we shouldn’t give you an easy pass. “What you do matters?”
David said, “His behavior during the debate — he wouldn’t let Joe Biden speak. I’ve never seen a worse debate. It was pathetic. He’s said disparaging things about Muslim Americans.”
In Tennessee, a state that is strongly believed that Trump will win easily. Union University, a Christian college shouldn’t be in doubt to support Mr. Trump.
Hunter Baker, the university’s dean of arts and sciences, said that he really doesn’t know who they are going for, “People are keeping it close to their vest.”
Shirley Hoogstra, president of the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities, said in an interview that, ” President Trump has taken actions on issues like abortion and religious freedom that are important to Christians.” The President’s decisions have made it hard for people to choose.
One can say, of all that is going on in America, Trump’s supporters will slide. Trump’s failure to condemn white supremacists, mishandling of National protest over the murder of George Floyd, failure to handle the Coronavirus pandemic, could be a deficit in religious voters.
According to A Pew Research Polls, just a little more than a month ago, 59 percent of white Protestants backed Trump. But in the latest Pew poll, conducted between Sept. 30 and Oct. 5, only 52 percent backed him. Among white evangelical Protestants, support for Trump dropped during that time from 83 percent to 78 percent.
The question; is Trump losing the votes of religious groups or not? As we all await November 3 election. Who wins?
