The Taliban, a militant group that ran the country in the late 1990s has taken over again to control its affairs as a newly established government. The incident has terrified the citizens and most visitors in the country. They have captured most cities. As the country gradually descends into chaos and people are terrified by their ruling. The feeling of the people that the Taliban may impose a harsh interpretation of Islamic law has left them in a terror astray to fly away from the country as reported by Usnews.com.
The current situation in the country left Christians in the entire diaspora to wonder how the feeling is like in Afghanistan. It was reported that a female Christian journalist is been hunted by these Taliban men. A pastor who currently does ministry in Afghanistan has said that this cause should terror them to flee the country rather ministry must go on and thus they must stay and fight.
On the other side of the update, US president, Joe Biden continue to put measures in place of withdrawing its military troops and country people in Afghanistan, the president and CEO of Samaritan’s Purse (the international Christian relief and evangelism organization), and also the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, Franklin Graham has stated that the situation at Afghanistan is seriously dire.
He said that though the situation is dire, Christians should stand fast in pray for the people in Afghanistan. He set today, Sunday, 22nd of August should be a pray day for Afghanistan.
In his post on Facebook, he posted that the situation in Afghanistan is desperate.
Here is what he said.
“I’m asking for Christians around the world to join me in praying for the people of Afghanistan this Sunday, August 22.
The situation in Afghanistan is desperate. Thousands of people who know they will be targeted by the Taliban are trying to get out of the country and can’t, with the Taliban blocking access to the airport and other exit routes.
This is a life or death situation for Christians and other religious minorities, Afghans who worked with or for America, and for Americans who are left in Afghanistan.
The Islamic extremists who have taken Afghanistan by force have a history of brutality, including be headings and public executions. We know what they are capable of. There is no hope for these people to get out safely—apart from a miracle from the hand of God—and that’s what we need to pray for.
Will you join me in praying and ask your church to pray as well?”
Whether the takeover is prophetic or not, it is our responsibility as good Christians to pray for a fellow country and a city.
Jeremiah 29:7
And seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray to the LORD for it; for in its peace you will have peace. (NKJV)
