Weeks of protesting and fighting for justice of black lives seem not to be very effective after a horrific attack on a black pastor at his apartment in Virginia.
According to WHSV-TV, it was reported that Pastor Leon McCray with Lighthouse Church & Marketplace Ministries International noticed two people pulling a refrigerator toward a dumpster at an apartment complex that he owns.
McCray asked them to put the refrigerator back as it was a trespassing crime, the two got very angry and offended. They left and came back with three additional men, making them five in numbers.
The five men in the group assaulted the Pastor, in his defense he drew a gun and call the police.
McCray said that the reason why he drew the gun was that those assaulters were all over him, he couldn’t leave, do anything, all that he could is to defend himself by seeking his gun.
When the polices arrived, they took his weapon and arrested him for brandishing a firearm. But failed to listen to his side of the story.
“How humiliating, how dehumanizing…to look at this mob of individuals cheering on the sidelines waving as I was carted off to go to jail,” he told The Northern Virginia Daily. “And they took my weapon, and in front of this mob of five white individuals that were still threatening my life.”
After the arrest of McCray, Shenandoah County Sheriff Timothy Carter talked to the Pastor and declared that the arrest the policemen made was inappropriate.
During a recorded press conference, Shenandoah County Sheriff Timothy Carter said that if he was in the same situation he would have defended himself from those people.
Shenandoah County Sheriff said that he and his men care about the black community in Shenandoah and he supports the right to defend yourself.
All five of the people involved in the incident were charged with assault by a mob and hate crime. They are currently being held by the Sheriff’s office while the investigation is ongoing.
McCray concluded, “My black life didn’t matter. But I’m here to tell you, as a Kingdom son, my black life does matter,” McCray concluded.
