(Macon, GA) – Macon, Georgia’s premier gospel station, WYPZ, won the Stellar Award for ‘Small Market Station of the Year’ category. The station, which plays the most inspirational hits in gospel music, features several shows including Middle Georgia Sunday Praise, Weekend Praise, The Nightly Spirit with Darlene McCoy, Get Up Mornings with Erica Campbell, The Willie Moore Junior Show, and Mid-Day Praise Break. WYPZ has been in existence since 2015 and services the entire Middle Georgia area.
“I’m ecstatic and positively shocked and very grateful at the same time,” says Harold Young, host of The Mid-Day Praise Break with Brother Harold and the marketing and events coordinator for WYPZ. “I want to thank those who supported the station and nominated us for an award.”
The Stellar Awards is the first Gospel Music Awards show in the country honoring Gospel Music Artists, writers, and industry professionals for their contributions to the Gospel Music Industry. The Stellar Awards ranks high in status as the only Gospel Music television awards program syndicated in over 140 markets nationwide.
Young has worked at the station for seven years. Originally from Los Angeles, CA, he moved to Macon, Georgia with his family in June 2008, to serve as the minister of music for Community Church of God, under the leadership of Pastor David K. Biggers. He was employed by Macon’s local NBC affiliate as an Account Executive then later worked for Power 107.1 as an account manager.
In less than a year, Young was promoted to be the General Sales Manager for the radio station. After leaving the radio station for a few years, Vice-President of Georgia Radio Alliance, Claudel Price, called to inform him that they purchased a Gospel radio station and wanted him to be the local on-air personality. Young was introduced to Middle Georgia as Praise 99.5FM’s Mid-day Personality at the 2014 Praise Fest at Washington Park in Macon during a concert featuring William Murphy and Isaac Caree. He produced the Festival of Praise concert with Donnie McClurkin, Fred Hammond, Erica Campbell and other concert events, such as “Peace in the Park” – where he put his money up to bring the community together to pray for peace in the community to a large crowd.
