Franklin Graham, son of the late evangelist Billy Graham and CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, has sparked controversy with his recent comments on Facebook regarding LGBTQ rights and language.
In a post on his Facebook page, Graham expressed agreement with atheist Richard Dawkins’ statement that the push by LGBTQ activists to discredit the reality of two biological sexes is “utter nonsense.” Dawkins had made the comments during an interview with Piers Morgan on his show, “Piers Morgan Uncensored.”
Graham praised Dawkins for taking a stand for “scientific fact,” and suggested that the Bible also reflects the notion that there are only two biological sexes. He quoted Genesis 1:27, which says, “God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.”
Graham also expressed concern about what he called “woke culture” and the bullying of people who stand up for “scientific fact.” He urged his followers to pray for Dawkins, that he might come to understand the truth of the Gospel and God’s love for him.
Graham’s comments were met with both support and criticism. Some praised him for speaking out in defense of traditional values, while others accused him of promoting harmful and discriminatory ideas. The debate surrounding LGBTQ rights and language continues to be a contentious issue in many parts of the world.
