According to BBC, South African police officials rescued men, women, and children who were being held in a ‘hostage situation’ at International Pentecostal Holiness Church in Johannesburg.
SA police arrested more than 40 people and seized a lot of weapons at their disposal. To the police, they think the attack may have been planned by some members of that church.
The church having more than three million members is one of the largest and wealthiest churches in South Africa and allegedly reported that $6.5M had gone missing in some years past which led to the church’s financial situation under investigation. The church had gone through several violations among themselves; which include shots fired, rocks thrown and cars being smashed.
This attack has claimed the lives of five people. Leadership power in the church has been an issue since their former leader died in the year 2016. The SA police officials have launched a serious and tight investigation into this matter.
